Mumbo Jumbo July 2016

I hope you all had a joyous Fourth of July weekend and that the weather was as nice for you as it was at the boathouse in Maine. After logging 16,000 road miles in two months through 31 states, I was ready to take a break and log a few sea miles on the sailboat, and simply enjoy putting around our new seaside neighborhood of Kittery in the inflatable dinghy. I had two wonderful weeks of seeing old friends and family, and eating more than my share of lobster, scallops, crab and fish cakes from the local farmers market, and it’s time for me to board my plane for Chicago and get back to work.
 
Guitarist extraordinaire Dave Edmisten and I are performing a number of shows in the next three weeks starting tonight in Rockford, Illinois, and finishing in Freeport, New York, on July 31. In between we’ll be making stops in Wisconsin, Illinois, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Virginia. I’m excited to be heading north of the border for a few solo shows in the Toronto area this month as well. MAYER KIRBY MAYER HITS THE ROAD IN SEPTEMBER

I hesitate to mention September when we barely have one foot in July, but it’s my favorite month of the year for a couple of reasons, one being that for a half a dozen years it’s been the month when Peter Mayer and I join forces and hit the road together. Three years ago we added Peter’s son Brendan to the musical mix, and last year we rounded out this acoustic group with my old friend Gary Green, an extraordinary harmonica player. We released our first live recording La Casa Cayo Hueso (Key West House) last Christmas. Thanks to all of you and the fine folks at SiriusXM Radio Margaritaville, the title song and CD have done very well.

This year, we have shows in the works for the Birdseye Lounge in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, on September 8; the Sandbar Grill in Taunton, Massachusetts, on September 10; the Stephen Talkhouse in Amagansett, New York, on September 11; the Manayunk Brewery in Philadelphia on September 12; and Ashland Coffee & Tea on September 13. On September 17 we’ll headline the annual Boatyard Beach Bash in Annapolis, Maryland; and on September 18 we once again perform in Manassas, Virginia, to benefit the Rainbow Therapeutic Riding Center with special guests John Frinzi and Sunny Jim.
 
Tickets are already on sale for the Stephen Talkhouse and the Boatyard Beach Bash (both these shows were sellouts last year), and tickets for all other shows will go on sale on August 1. Stay tuned for the next Mumbo Jumbo with Mayer Kirby Mayer details.
