MUMBO JUMBO – MARCH 2016

FROM PARADISE TO PARADISE VALLEY

I landed here in Montana yesterday to rest my voice and fingers for a couple of weeks, to work on a new song or two, and to put the finishing touches on the upcoming summer tour. It’s been wonderful performing at the Smokin’ Tuna in Key West during the harsh months of winter, but I head out on the road on April 20th. The first leg of the tour takes me from Florida up the east coast with sixteen shows along the way, finishing in New England on May 13th.

In late May I head down through the middle of the country to Arkansas and across Texas, New Mexico and Arizona, up through California, and back east through Idaho to Montana. Late June and most of July will find me in the northern plains, the Midwest and Canada. Late July and the first half of August we’ll be back on the east coast in Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland, New York, New Jersey and then home to Maine. In late August I hope to be in Ireland with Gabriel Donohue (more on that below) and in September I’ll be touring with the Mayer Kirby Mayer Acoustic Group once again.

Summer tour dates will begin appearing on my website in the coming days, and if you have any ideas for a venue or even a house concert near you, please don’t hesitate to write me at scott@scottkirby.com and I’ll make sure to get right back to you.

LA CASA CAYO HUESO

It seems just yesterday that Peter, Brendan Mayer and I released our new CD, La Casa Cayo Hueso. I want to thank all of you who have purchased the double-length album in the last few months, and for your many kind emails and comments. One never really knows how these live projects will turn out, as they are such a high-wire act. We will be forever grateful for Chris Stone’s brilliant work of mixing and fixing it. I also want to give a shout out to all our friends at SiriusXM’s Radio Margaritaville, who have been so supportive—the title track has been in constant rotation on the air since the start of the year, bringing our new song to the far reaches of the country and beyond.

Speaking of radio, while I’m in Montana I’ll be traveling up to Missoula to do a radio interview on the KGVO What Do You Know show with hosts Arnie Sherman and Scott Richman. You can listen to the hour-long show live on Sunday, March 20 at 10:00 am EST by going to the station’s website at NewstalkKGVO.com or hear it after the fact on their page or on my website. I expect to play a few songs and talk about life on the road, how I ended up in Montana, and whatever else comes up.

THE SCOTT KIRBY “LUCKY ENOUGH” TOUR OF IRELAND WITH GABRIEL DONOHUE … and you can join us!

I have indeed been lucky enough to travel to Ireland several times in my life, and had great fun meeting my close friend and musician extraordinaire Gabriel Donohue there in years past. I’m sure many of you have seen Gabriel playing with me, at his own shows, or with the legendary Chieftains; or perhaps you caught his performance on the David Letterman show with Tom Waits (pictured below). We’ve had so much fun playing together over the years that we decided to host an insider’s Irish tour in late August this year and take forty of you hearty souls on the bus with us. Considering the nights of craic we’ve stumbled upon in our 30-year friendship, I think it’s safe to say this won’t be your grandfather’s bus tour!

Gabriel is from Galway and has played pretty much everyplace else in his homeland too, so he knows the country like the back of his hand. This week-long tour is going to focus on our favorite spots from Kinsale in the south to Connemara in the west and some of the most beautiful scenery and out-of-the-way pubs in between. We’re going to be performing a number of gigs along the way and frankly I’m quite happy to be on a comfortable bus this time, rather than navigating the winding roads of Ireland on the wrong side. Not to mention I’ve been known to have a pint or two.

We’re in the process of putting together the exact dates and the itinerary and I will have further details for you in my April 5th newsletter. Gabriel has hosted such trips in the past and tells me the bus, hotel rooms and a number of meals will be included in the package, but you will be responsible for booking your own flights into Shannon Airport. As I mentioned, we can only take 40 guests, so keep an eye out for more details in April!
