A DRIVE AROUND THE WORLD

It was a joy to drive over the Seven-Mile Bridge today and reach the end of the road after another long drive around the world. I say that because the circumference of our fair planet is about 24,000 miles, and no matter which route my summer tour takes each year, it always seems to add up to about 24,000 miles. This drives me crazy (forgive the pun) as I never go the same way twice, and the states we visit vary from year to year. But oh well, the odometer doesn’t lie, and after the van’s eight years of dedicated service and 217,000 miles, I decided to put it out to pasture and get a new one.

TIME TO FLY SOUTH

I was in Montana last week working on a new song with Peter Mayer, and the magic and melancholy of autumn was thick in the Rocky Mountain air. When I awoke one morning to big snowflakes lazily drifting down upon the roof of my shed, I knew it was time for this bird to fly south.

This evening I perform for the first time in six months at the Smokin’ Tuna Saloon, which thankfully has become my musical winter home. It’s always nice to return and catch up with my old friends and be able to play a show without the long drive, load-ins and sound checks associated with the road. After a five-minute stroll or bike ride, I simply hand my guitar cable to Greg, our superb sound engineer, knowing that within minutes he’s going to have me sounding as good as I’m ever going to sound through the great Bose system there. That’s a musician’s dream.

MAYER KIRBY MAYER SHOW COMES TO KEY WEST

& A NEW LIVE CD!

Fall in Key West brings the annual Parrotheads in Paradise festival. This year the Mayer Kirby Mayer Acoustic Group is the 8:00 pm act on November 7 on the main stage at the Casa Marina beach.

We decided to use this opportunity and beautiful setting to record a live CD, to be titled La Casa Cayo Hueso. Pete and I have been working on a new song of the same title, which we will debut at the November 7 concert. Joining Brendan and us onstage will be harmonica virtuoso Gary Green, Jim Mayer on bass, and Roger Guth on drums. We plan to release the CD in mid-December.

Peter and I have been touring together sporadically for years, mostly with acoustic guitars, and many of you have asked for recordings of these shows. Brendan started traveling with us three years ago and long-time friend Gary Green joined the tour for 2015, so this seemed like a good time to record. We just finished an eight-city tour from Maine to North Carolina in a variety of venues ranging from the beautiful Paramount Theater in Charlottesville, Virginia, to the storied Stephen Talkhouse on eastern Long Island, where we were joined by local resident Jimmy Buffett.

If you will be in Key West for the festival, we hope you can be there for the show on November 7. You might make it onto the CD! Peter, Brendan and I will be at the Smokin’ Tuna Saloon on Friday November 6 at 1pm to sign CDs and other new merchandise and to take orders for the new CD. Please stop by! There will also be a meet and greet after the Casa Marina concert. If you can’t come, keep an eye out for the CD release in December.

All 2015 dates for the Smokin’ Tuna in Key West and Snappers in Key Largo are on my schedule – check the website for details and special events!

Thanks for listening!
