NEW CD, “SOL SEARCHING” AVAILABLE APRIL 20

My latest recording and seventh CD, SOL SEARCHING will be available on Little Flock Music in CD format only on April 20, through my web site, ScottKirby.com. The CD features some musicians who may be familiar to you such as Lew London, Peter Mayer and Gabriel Donohue, but also spotlights some fresh faces such as guitarist extraordinaire Mike McAdam, drummer Jim McConnell and bassist Andy Lalasis, in addition to stunning young players from The Charter Tech School for The Performing Arts in Somers Point, New Jersey. More on the new CD in the April newsletter but here is a preview of what you’ll hear on SOL SEARCHING.

TURNING OF THE TIDE (S Kirby)
A nostalgic look at a simpler time and a story about a person who reaches a point in life when they finally discover what is really important.

SOL SEARCHING (S Kirby)
I was inspired to write this by New England friends battling the winter blues and threatening to leave everything behind to search the world for some sunshine in an RV named “Sol Searching.” I loved the ring and double meaning of this as soon as I heard it! Thanks Kara!

ANY OLD TOWN IN NEW ENGLAND (S Kirby)
After a particularly trying year on the road I came to Maine during a beautiful week in June and just felt like writing a song about returning home to New England! It was a challenge getting all six states in there.

YOU BETTER BELIEVE HER! (S Kirby/T Weaver) My good friend and co-writer Tom Weaver put this idea in my head after decades of grueling research and years spent blissfully sailing through a sea of fascinating, brilliant, hilarious and often subtly sociopathic women! This song is not about any particular person and we must sadly confess, we don’t know anyone with a tattoo of a mushroom cloud inside of her thigh, but if Lena Dunham is listening, Hanna on HBO’s Girls might be a good candidate!

LIVING LOST AND LOVING IT (S Kirby)
Here’s to Serendipity which is defined as “happy accident,” a topic I know something about!

JUST ANOTHER PLACE WE’LL NEVER GO (S Kirby) The chorus of this song has been jotted down in my notebook for over ten years and I finally got around to writing a song around it. I recently heard Paul Simon say that sometimes the meaning of a song is really up to the listener.

VINEYARD (Jackopierce)
A book of photographs of Martha’s Vineyard sat on our coffee table for years and as a teenager I must have thumbed through it a thousand times. I drove there when I got my first car and sailed my little 23ft boat to the island when I was very young and it remains a special place to me. Thank you Jackopierce!

WHISKEY (S Kirby)
While on a trip to Scotland a few years back I discovered whiskey and through the kind tutelage of John Hansell from The Whiskey Advocate Magazine, it has indeed turned my life around!

GUYS LIKE US (S Kirby)
I guess this could be the sequel to “You Better Believe Her!”

OLD BEACH HOUSE (S Kirby)
My friend Jay Gould has a fantastic old family beach cottage perched on the sand in Plaice Cove, New Hampshire, and one special night last fall a group of us were gathered round the old fieldstone fireplace and it inspired me to try to capture this magical house and evening in a song.

SOL SEARCHING TOUR STARTS APRIL 20 in NEW HAMPSHIRE!

The first leg of this year’s tour begins up north and heads south down the coast then west to Louisville, Kentucky, then through the middle of the country on to Arizona.
