Greetings from Key West. I’m happy to announce that we just finalized the details for two upcoming shows in Florida with Peter and Brendan Mayer. We have toured this acoustic show on the east coast for the past three years, and we are excited to have the opportunity to perform together in Florida. Tickets go on sale Monday at noon!
APRIL 2: Peter Mayer-Scott Kirby-Brendan Mayer at the Smokin’ Tuna Saloon in Key West. SHOWTIME 9:30 pm, doors open at 9:00 pm. Tickets are $25 and available through www.keystix.com at noon on Monday, March 9.
APRIL 3: Peter Mayer-Scott Kirby-Brendan Mayer at Shadowood Farm, 6220 SW Martin Highway, Palm City, FL 34990. SHOWTIME 8:00 pm. Tickets are $45 and available at noon on Monday, March 9. TRAVEL THESE DAYS
I don’t look for these adventures. I really don’t. I’m writing this in the air between Miami and LA after a strange security episode at the Miami airport that ended with all the passengers slowly deplaning past the twitching nose of a large black German shepherd and four heavily armed SWAT officers.

Five minutes after our schedule departure time had passed, the pilot came on with that familiar folksy tone: “Welcome aboard, just taking care of a few details up here in the cockpit, and we should have you on your way to LA shortly.” That little speech always worries me.
A few minutes later, a flight attendant announced, “Would passenger so-and-so please deplane the aircraft.” That seemed strange, but I saw three young men 10 rows in front of me get up and shuffle around, and then one walked off. Maybe he was on the wrong flight, I thought.
Twenty more minutes of flight attendants coming and going and a few people milling around, and then the pilot came back on. “Folks, there is no security concern, but a passenger sent a suspicious text, and as a result we have asked him to leave the aircraft and may have to ask everyone to deplane with their luggage. We’ll check the aircraft and re-board you as quickly as possible.” Loud group groan.

Moments later they announced we could deplane at the gate, and we began the slow process of passing by the bomb dog and handler. I have a very close friend named Peter Goelz who is an aviation expert and regular contributor to CNN, so I snapped a few pictures of the scene and sent him a brief text explaining the situation. He immediately answered, “How much will you pay me not to send you a text right now in Arabic?” “You fiend!” I shot back and realized I was the only person on the plane laughing.
I made it past the dog, terrified he would eat my cherished $12 sandwich, and 24 hours later I was landing in Maui. And that is another story.
SUMMER TOUR 2015
At this time of the year, we’re working hard to put together my April to October tour, which includes about 60 shows from coast to coast and nearly every place in between. Terry Lederer and I have worked together for many years on this, but she’s busy with other projects this spring, so I’m attempting to put this together myself for 2015. We arrange the tour in segments planned around existing bookings—this year’s route is listed below.
