MUMBO JUMBO – November 2013 – Special Parrot Heads Edition

November 2013

Special Parrot Heads Edition

I arrived back in Florida yesterday, and just played my first show in the balmy evening breeze of the Keys since last April. It’s always nice to get back to this special part of the country, and it’s become a yearly tradition to perform at Snappers in Key Largo the weekend before the annual Parrot Head festival, which begins in Key West on Monday.   After four gigs here, Dave Edmisten and I head down Route 1 to Cayo Hueso for a week of shows at The Smokin’ Tuna Saloon joined by the amazing Emily Leader on fiddle.  As many of you know, Sgt. Leader is full time in the United States Army and hasn’t played in Key West for a few years, so performing with her this year will be a real treat!

MASSACOUSTICS and guests at The Smokin’ Tuna Saloon, October 30.

Matt and Andy Thompson, the most dynamic two man band you will ever see, will bring their high energy show to the Tuna for one special performance on Wednesday, October 30th.  Combining stunning musicianship, brotherly harmonies and brilliant songwriting, these two brothers put on a show that you won’t want to miss.  Their song, “Soundtrack of the Summer,” remains a mainstay on Radio Margaritaville and Parrot Heads are still talking about their last performance at MOTM five years ago.

This show will most certainly sell out, so be sure to get your tickets ASAP from Keystix.com.

DJ JEFF ALLEN

On a sad note, DJ Jeff Allen of Beachfront Radio lost a long and difficult battle to cancer this week.

A tireless promoter of trop rock and coastal inspired music, and a talented DJ and interviewer, Jeff was passionate about music and had the heart and courage to follow his bliss.  I’m sure he will be missed by his many listeners, and those of us who were lucky enough to be the recipients of his unwavering support have lost a friend.

He spent the last years of his life bringing tremendous joy and happiness to people, and I guess we should all strive to do the same.  Thanks Jeff.
