Mumbo Jumbo October 2017

Key West roars back October 1st

The world seems in turmoil right now with heartbreaking images of refugees fleeing through the mud, earthquakes rumbling through the earth and monstrous hurricanes prowling our oceans, so it’s with a bit of survivor’s guilt that I can report Key West made out comparatively well, and the island will officially reopen to visitors on Sunday, October 1st.

Some of the middle Keys, where Irma made a direct hit, did not fare so well. I will be driving south from Miami next week and have been warned that the scene along some of the overseas highway is bleak. Down in Key West, widespread property damage seems to have been avoided, although friends tell me the island looks like it received a severe haircut, a term locals use to describe loss of trees and foliage.

But Key West folks are resilient. They have been working hard cleaning up and are anxious to welcome you back, so please carry on with your vacation plans. I’ll be returning next week to perform a couple of special shows at the Smokin’ Tuna Saloon – more on that later.

New CD on sale with 20% of profits to hurricane relief

I’m happy to announce that we are now taking and shipping orders for my new CD, Chasing Hemingway’s Ghost. Ironically, one of the tracks on the CD toasts the bittersweet mood of locals left behind during a pre-storm evacuation. You can hear a bit of that song on my Facebook page, and you can see the title track video on my website at scottkirby.com, where you can also order the new CD. I will be donating 20% percent of the profits from CD sales for the rest of the year to hurricane relief funds. See the schedule below for CD release shows at some great venues in the coming month, culminating with my Key West CD release concert on November 2 during Meeting of the Minds.

MKM benefit concert at the Smokin’ Tuna on October 7th

I will be joining Peter and Brendan Mayer for a special benefit concert at the Smokin’ Tuna Saloon on Saturday, October 7. Please stay tuned and check for details on my website.

And for all of you who can’t be there, there will be a way to donate online.
