Mumbo Jumbo January 2020
From Blow Me Down to Cayo Hueso
Happy New Year and welcome to the Roaring Twenties from Key West!
I ended the decade by spending two peaceful weeks in December in Newfoundland. Most people don’t know much about this province of Canada (as of 1949) or where it is. To give you some perspective, it’s out in the North Atlantic nearly 1,000 miles east of Boston and only about 2,000 miles from Ireland – it is in fact bigger than Ireland and the world’s 17th largest island.
New songs
About every three years, I hunker down in some remote town where I don’t know anyone to work on a batch of new songs. Every songwriter has their own process, but this works for me. I so enjoy the solitude and absence of TVs, phones, computers and all the other things that cause so much noise in our lives and rob of us the ability to ponder.
Looking forward to 2020
I’m very much looking forward to this year as we begin to book my 2020 tour. I’ve got two very exciting concerts in the works and will be traveling again across the country and into Canada. Gabriel Donohue and I have another tour of Ireland planned in June. I’m planning a new CD and maybe some shows overseas in the fall.
January shows
Speaking of shows abroad, I was recently introduced to a terrific young singer songwriter from England by the name of James Kirby. A mutual acquaintance connected us after seeing James perform in Europe, where he tours extensively.
I am very excited that he will be a special guest with me at the Smokin’ Tuna on January 18, 20, 21, 22 and 23. He has a great voice and his guitar playing is quite extraordinary. You can check him out for yourself on YouTube, but don’t miss him if you are in Key West.
You can find those dates, plus details for a house concert in Indiatlantic on January 11 and the rest of the Smokin’ Tuna dates on my website.
All the best for 2020 and thanks for listening!
