September 2018
Greetings from the coast of Maine. I want to thank everyone who took time out of their busy lives to come to my shows around the country this summer. Now it’s the first day of September, and from my window I just saw the first gold leaf gently sail into the cove. The temperature has dropped from 94 degrees on Thursday to 58 degrees this morning, and no matter what the official calendar says, when the page is turned on August, it’s fall in my book.
As one who is suffers a bit from seasonal affective disorder, it’s odd that I am so fond of September and October. But the clear, crisp air, gorgeous light, and diminishing crowds more than make up for the occasional pangs of melancholy that come with the turning of the leaves and early sunsets.
Mayer Kirby Mayer tour with Gary Green
In recent years, September has brought an additional source of joy as I get to shake up my musical life and travel the East coast with three terrific musicians and great friends, Peter and Brendan Mayer and my childhood buddy Gary Green. We’ve expanded our tour this year to include a dozen concerts from Portsmouth, New Hampshire, to Asheville, North Carolina. See the schedule below for the full itinerary and direct links to tickets online.
Here’s a preview of a cool new t-shirt we’ll have on sale during the tour and this upcoming season in Key West. This is Ernest Hemingway’s Pilar, also pictured on the back of my Chasing Hemingway’s Ghost CD.
A concert in Kittery with Gabriel Donohue
I have just added a benefit concert in my home town of Kittery, Maine, at a magical local waterfront spot in Pepperrell Cove. I’m pleased to announce that guitarist Dave Edmisten will be joining me, and we’ll be sharing the stage with Gabriel Donohue and fiddle master Deb Shebish. This is going to be a wonderful night of music and will benefit the Kittery Art Association. Get your tickets here.
