MUMBO JUMBO – October-November 2011

GREETINGS!

It’s difficult to imagine that after driving 32,000 miles through 38 states over the past five months, I’m back on a Boeing 777 somewhere over Texas headed for Los Angeles.  Such is the life of twenty first century hobo… with a credit card!

After traveling across the wide open spaces of America all summer, I felt a little like a migratory fish being thrown back in the fish tank arriving back in tiny Key West, particularly seeing that it rained for ten days straight!

Dick Franyo, owner of The Boatyard Bar and Grill in Annapolis, and President of the National Sailing Hall of Fame, invited me out to attend the first annual induction ceremony in San Diego.  I bought my first sailboat while still a teenager and hung out a good bit in Newport, Rhode Island, during the America’s Cup days, so seeing sailing legends like Ted Turner, Gary Jobson and Dennis Conner and other legendary sailors seemed like a great idea.

While in town playing at The Rams Head last month I had spent a great Saturday with Dick attending the legendary Navy-Air Force game, complete with a pre kickoff low altitude fighter fly by and a thousand mid-shipmen marching on the field before the game.  Quite an impressive site!

From there we went directly to the awards ceremony and party for the Santa Maria Cup Regatta at the Eastport Yacht Club, of which the Boatyard Bar was a sponsor. This series of races featured a number of women’s teams from around the world.  Never a dull moment in Annapolis, where the weekend begins on Wednesday!

FROM NOW UNTIL MARCH

Most of our shows will be in the Keys or in Florida as I’m not fond of driving in the snow.  We’re headed up to do a couple of gigs with Lew London in Marco Island on October 28 and 29, and then back to Key West for the annual Parrothead Convention!

MEETING OF THE MINDS Nov 1 -6!

Tickets are still available for the Peter Mayer & Friends show on Tuesday, November 1st at Smokin’ Tuna Saloon!

I’ve never been part owner of a bar and restaurant anywhere, not to mention one in Key West during one of the craziest weeks of the year!  Needless to say, I don’t expect to sleep much!

There are a lot of great bars and restaurants in Key West, but we hope you’ll make time to stop by The Smokin’ Tuna Saloon on Charles Street (Charles is the lane directly across the street from Irish Kevins!).

We’re a partially covered outdoor bar and restaurant nestled among three historic buildings in Old Town Key West. We’re unveiling our brand new food menu next week, have two great bars and the best outdoor stage and sound system in Key West!

We’re dedicated to bringing great music to Key West and have an incredible line up during MOTM.  Aside from the two incredible Peter Mayer shows, we have The Jim Morris Band, songwriters Thom Shepherd, Mike Aiken, Kelly McGuire, John Frinzi and Sunny Jim White and some surprise guests!

I’ll be playing the 9 pm show Monday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights with guitarist David Edmisten and special guest fiddler Lew London, as well as playing before Peter Mayer Tuesday and Wednesday starting at 5pm.

And to top it off Takamine guitars will be giving away a brand new guitar at the “Mike Aiken and Friends Songwriters in the Round” on Sunday evening.  I really look forward to playing with Mike and Kelly McGuire!

The second and third weeks of November, I’ll be playing some solo shows in the afternoons on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, and Dave and I will be back in the evening Thanksgiving week!
