MUMBO JUMBO – July 2011
GREETINGS!
Last we spoke I was up on the coast of Maine getting some writing done. Thankfully I did get four new songs written: “Sol Searchin,” “Living Lost and Lovin It,” “Whiskey Has Turned My Life Around” and “Beach Folk.” Dave and I are already playing “Sol Searchin” and will be working the other three into the set list this month! I love Maine and hope to go back in the fall and write the rest of the new CD which may be called “Sol Searchin!”
SMOKIN’ TUNA Grand Opening!
From Maine, I flew back to play at the opening of our new bar on Charles Street, the little lane off of Duval, just across the street from Irish Kevins.
We had a huge crowd on June 17th and everyone who came in that entire week seemed to really love the lay out. The large spacious courtyard has a great old Key West feel and the acoustics are fantastic. The web site is up and running at: SMOKINTUNASALOON.com, the merchandise shop is open and the live Tunavision web cam will be operating any day! So please check us out in person, online or on the Tuna Cam. I’ll be back in Key West to play October 10 thru 16, and then the first week of November!
PETER MAYER at The Smokin’ Tuna!
The Smokin’ Tuna is proud to announce we will have The Peter Mayer Group at the club on Wednesday evening, November 2nd. Tickets will be $ 25 and go on sale through KEYSTIX on August 1st. Dave and I will be opening and we expect this to sell out, so mark August 1st on your calendar to get your tickets.
BACK ON THE ROAD!
After leaving Key West, it was back on the airplane on June 23rd to Texas to pick up the van. From there I did solo shows in Albuquerque, Tucson and Phoenix, and drove into LA for a few days to see my friends Gavin and Claudia Smith and their beautiful daughter Ava. I also got to spend some time with my buddy and producer Russ Kunkel. In addition to some great wine and incredible cookouts at the Smith’s, we actually got a little work done, refining and tweaking the new songs. I hope the tunes turn out as well as the food did!! Russ’ salmon burgers were unbelievable, the fresh blackened tuna on the grill, the huge lemon garlic shrimp, three nights in a row of Claudia’s mango and goat cheese salad. Lord did we eat for three days!! Back on the road and back to the gym.
SEATTLE to NEW ENGLAND
July 8 through September
After stopping in San Francisco last night to catch a Giants’ game at the gorgeous Stadium on the waterfront, it’s back to work this weekend in the longest segment of the tour. Dave joins me on the 8th in Seattle for the Laid Back Attack festival, then I play two other solo shows in Washington, one in Aberdeen, one in Omaha and one in Iowa, before Dave rejoins me for the rest of the tour in the Midwest and points east!
